Nesting Dinghy :  Wylie Nine

FLASHGIRL required a rowing dinghy, one which could handle one to three people in sheltered water or even five in flat calm, a boat easy and enjoyable to row which would please the eye of a seaman. Since FLASHGIRL was designed and built to sail and her deck laid out for sail-handling, insufficient room remained for stowage of her tender. Drawing on history and collective wisdom, the nesting dinghy concept was revisited. Patterns and rough sketches specific to the spaces on FLASHGIRL were delivered to Tom Wylie, and he created this little work of art now known as the Wylie Nine. WMT built to prototype in red cedar sheath with fiberglass seen here. A mould has been built and production boats are available. Sailing kits lie in the future.
